Specialized biological materials

Trusted supply for research-grade cell lines and control strains.

Microgenex Technologies supports research institutions and laboratories with ATCC-sourced biological materials — authenticated, traceable, and backed by step-by-step guidance on regulatory requirements.

What we supply

We specialize in the supply of cell lines and control strains for research and quality-control applications, primarily sourced from ATCC (American Type Culture Collection), now part of LGC Standards.

Cell lines

Authenticated mammalian and insect cell lines for virology, vaccine research, and in-vitro studies — including BSL-2 classified lines.

Control strains

Bacterial control strains for quality control, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and laboratory proficiency programmes.

CITES-regulated materials

Some items require additional permits under CITES. We guide clients through applicable documentation and import requirements.

Representative catalog

  • ATCC 13883 Klebsiella pneumoniae — control strain
  • ATCC 43816 K. pneumoniae — research strain

Why Microgenex

Sourcing regulated biological materials is complex. We reduce that complexity for your team.

Authenticated sources

All materials sourced directly from ATCC (LGC Standards) — the globally recognized biorepository standard for authenticated biological materials.

Regulatory guidance

We navigate Kenyan regulatory requirements — including Pharmacy and Poisons Board documentation — so your team focuses on research, not paperwork.

Clear timelines

We set realistic expectations from day one — including lead times, documentation milestones, and import permit alignment — so projects are not delayed.

Institutional experience

We work with research institutions, hospitals, and government organizations — including partners with HJFMRI and similar international programmes.

Ordering process at a glance

Supply of specialized biological materials involves multiple regulatory approvals. We guide you through each step.

Typical lead time

Most orders are delivered within 6 to 8 months once regulatory and import documentation is approved. Contact us early and we will map a documentation timeline specific to your products and institution.

  1. 1
    Initial inquiry

Share required products, intended use, and your organization details. We confirm availability and applicable regulatory category.

  2. 2
    Documentation preparation

Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), Biosafety Level 2 form (where applicable), end-user letter, and intended-use declaration — all signed by upper management.

  3. 3
    Regulatory approvals

ATCC review and approval, import permit processing, Pharmacy and Poisons Board documentation, and SGS inspection (where required).

  4. 4
    Payment & order placement

Proof of payment submitted. Order placed with ATCC once all approvals are in place.

  5. 5
    Shipping & customs clearance

Materials shipped under cold-chain conditions. Our phone number must appear on all shipping documents as the mandatory customs contact.

Frequently asked questions

Who can place an order?

We supply research institutions, universities, hospitals, quality-control laboratories, and government organizations. Orders require an institutional end-user letter signed by upper management, so we are not able to supply individuals directly.

What is ATCC (LGC Standards)?

ATCC (American Type Culture Collection) is the globally recognized nonprofit biorepository for authenticated biological materials. It is now part of LGC Standards, a global life-sciences measurement and testing group. ATCC materials are the reference standard for reproducible science and quality-control work.

What documents does my institution need to provide?

Requirements vary by product but typically include: a signed Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), a BSL-2 biosafety form (for BSL-2 materials), an import permit, proof of payment, an end-user letter declaring intended use, and additional documentation for the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya. We will send you a complete checklist after your initial inquiry.

Why does delivery take 6–8 months?

The lead time reflects the multi-step approval process: ATCC review and approval of the MTA and biosafety forms, Kenyan import permit processing, and in some cases SGS inspection. Starting documentation early — ideally at the inquiry stage — is the best way to keep your project on schedule.

Do you handle CITES-regulated materials?

Yes. Some biological materials are classified under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), which adds permit requirements and may affect delivery timelines. We identify whether your requested products are CITES-classified and guide you through the additional documentation.
